Asociaciones Comunitarias

For patients with serious illnesses or injuries that require highly specialized care and technology, we continue to establish and maintain referral relationships with larger medical centers in our region. Through these relationships, we are able to quickly and safely transfer patients from our emergency department and inpatient beds as needed for the advanced care they require.

We also proudly partner with local community organizations to educate the residents about health and wellness and bring needed services to their doorstep. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we teamed up with the local health departments to provide free screenings.

Bringing Nationally Recognized Expertise Closer to Home

Partnerships play an important role in helping Washington Regional Medical Center continue to grow, innovate, and invest in the future of healthcare. Through affiliations with multiple divisions of Duke University Health, WRMC is expanding educational opportunities, supporting clinical research, and creating new pathways for professional development that benefit both our healthcare team and the communities we serve.

Watts School of Nursing

Housed within the Duke University School of Nursing, the Watts School of Nursing provides RN and BSN educational programs. Through this affiliation, WRMC serves as a clinical rotation site for RN and BSN students while offering the Blue Carpet Experience, providing opportunities for WRMC nurses who wish to further their professional development by pursuing RN or BSN educational advancement.

Every Child Deserves Access to Specialized Care

Through our partnership with Shriners Children’s, Washington Regional Medical Center serves as a regional point of access to a network of nationally recognized pediatric specialists, helping families connect with advanced pediatric expertise while remaining close to home for their initial evaluation.

Bringing Specialized Expertise to Our Region

Through the Shriners Children’s Telehealth Network, adolescents throughout our region have access to consultations with renowned pediatric clinicians. When additional specialty care is needed, the Shriners Children’s network of dedicated volunteers may assist with transportation to and from WRMC for the initial evaluation and, when appropriate, provide transportation to a Shriners Children’s hospital along with housing support for families while a child is receiving care. Depending on the family situation, Shriner’s Children’s Foundation helps to cover the cost of services, too.

This partnership helps reduce barriers to specialty pediatric services by connecting local families with experienced pediatric specialists and the resources available through the Shriners Children’s network.
